A Dubai resort is offering its guests the opportunity to have a goldfish in their room as part of a trial on the benefits of the classic childhood pet helping guests to practice mindfulness.

Guests checking into The Westin Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina can now request a goldfish to be in their room for the duration of their stay as part of the ‘Westin Wellness’ initiative, which is designed to help guests to sleep, eat, move, feel, work and play well while at the complex.

“It’s becoming increasingly difficult to switch off completely and so we are encouraging our guests to take a little time out of their day to practice mindfulness for their own wellbeing, said Westin Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina Ronan Fearon complex hotel manager. “Our guest goldfish are here to help with relaxation, creativity or simply to offer a little companionship – feedback has been really positive so far so its definitely a service we’ll be continuing.”

In addition to putting goldfish in guestrooms, The Westin Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina’s business centres have also become home to a family of goldfish to help create a more relaxed environment for business travellers and help stimulate creativity.

Known for their calming influence, goldfish are widely recognised as helping with relaxation.
